Love the thought of freshly-baked doughnuts, but intimidated at the thought of complicated recipes and splattering oil?
I may just have the perfect solution for you.
In the spirit of honesty, I will admit that I have had many disastrous bouts with the art of doughnut-making. Flour and sugar strewn across the kitchen, batter sticking to the counter, and doughnuts that looked like burnt fried chicken? It is no secret that my past experiences in doughnut-making were anything but successful.
That is, until I discovered a wondrous and lifechanging invention known as the doughnut pan.
Similar to a muffin pan, you just pour your batter, pop in the oven, toss in some glaze, and you’ve got fresh doughnuts that are sure to rival any fried ones. Plus, since they are baked, they instantly qualify as being healthy, right? Right.
You need these in your life right now. These have a delicious, dense, cake-like texture that is pure heaven when it is topped with this luscious glaze.
Finish them with sprinkles or powdered sugar. If you’re not feeling the glaze, try dusting them with cinnamon sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate. The possibilities are truly endless.
Glazed Baked Doughnuts
Yield: 6-8 doughnuts (using a Wilton doughnut pan)
Doughnut Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Glaze Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (or more depending on consistency)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon milk
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Lightly grease the doughnut pan.
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Add the milk, egg, vanilla, and melted butter. Stir just until combined.
- Pour the batter into a pastry bag fitted with a large round tip, or use a plastic bag with a corner cut off to pipe into the doughnut pan.
- Bake 8-10 minutes or until doughnuts spring back when touched. It is much better to underbake, rather than overbake to avoid dry doughnuts.
- Cool slightly before removing from the pan.
- Combine powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until you reach the desired consistency (should be smooth, but not runny)
- Dip the doughnuts into the glaze and top with sprinkles or any other toppings!
