Sometimes we all need a little break from reality, and that was definitely the case for me after a hard year of work with no vacation. So, I did what any self-respecting young professional does. I called my sister and we schemed to drop some money on a quick little getaway to somewhere tropical. Cancun seemed like the perfect choice.
From the time that the idea first entered our heads to the moment that we boarded the plane headed for Mexico took about two weeks! We were so ready to get out of town and have some quality sister time sipping margaritas on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean, that we booked the soonest trip humanly possible.
Soon, we were boarding an airplane headed for Cancun, Mexico and stepping out into a balmy afternoon in Mexico at the Omni Cancun Resort + Villas. From the very first moment that we set foot into the resort, the amazing staff was already handing us cocktails and bottled waters to start our vacation on the right page. Our villa was absolutely beautiful with a spectacular view of the pools and the crystal blue ocean that stretched as far as the eye could see. The all-inclusive resort is perfectly nestled between the dazzling Mexican Caribbean and secluded Nichupte Lagoon on Cancun Island.
With the white sandy beaches, turquoise blue water, breathtaking sunsets and spectacular views, we were truly in paradise. Our five days spent in Cancun were a combination of reading under the palm trees, sipping strawberry frozen margaritas (probably a few more than I care to admit) and enjoying all of the amenities that the resort had to offer.
The resort boasts three enormous pools that cascade from one to another with fountains and multiple whirpools and waterfalls. We spent many an evening relaxing in the jacuzzi that overlooked the ocean and just catching up on life.
There were also tons of fun hangout spots from hammocks to these fun swings right outside of the swim-up bar (p.s. we may or may not have spent a lot of time there as well! Oops, it’s vacation, right?!)

Another one of my favorite features was the thai bed rentals – these cabanas are literal covered BEDS located right out on the beach! Perfect for napping and having your own secluded area with a front row view of the ocean. Make sure you reserve them early because they fill up quickly!
If you know me, you know food is always an important component of any trip and I’m pleased to say that I was not disappointed! The resort had nine different restaurants and 24-hour room service, so there was always something to satisfy whatever type of food we were feeling! One of our favorites was Da Vinci – an upscale Italian restaurant with a perfect view of the waterfall outside of the window and Piña Colada – a Mexican restaurant with al fresco dining in a covered restaurant literally on the beach.
We definitely ordered room service one morning and got more delicious food than we could possibly eat! I’m talkin’ waffles, stacks of pancakes, chocolate croissants, toast, and plates of fruit with fresh coffee and mango juice. Yum!

One thing I was particularly impressed with was how friendly and fun all of the staff and waiters were! They were constantly checking on us at the beach to see if they could bring us more drinks or snacks, and were super accommodating with any other requests we had!
Although the resort had enough activities to keep us completely busy for the duration of our trip, if you’re feeling more adventurous, there is definitely plenty to do in the surrounding area. On the tip of the Yucatan peninsula, Cancun is sizzling with so many exciting attractions. The Omni Cancun Resort + Villas resort is located just a short walk from plenty of outdoor activities including swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, golfing, etc.
Another thing that I wish we had gotten time to do was explore the nearby Mayan ruins or Aktun Chen, one of the region’s magnificent caves with underground rivers – maybe we’ll just have to plan a trip back again asap, right?! Overall our adventure to the Omni Cancun Resort + Villas was the PERFECT trip to enjoy comfortable accommodations, delicious food, spectacular views and Mexican culture and filled with magical memories that I’ll savor forever!
